South Africa

International Leader - Mrs E Bailey

Woodfall Primary School is twinned with St. James RC Primary School in South Africa.

We have been twinned since 2008. Jayne Martin, the founder of AfriTwin enabled us to set up these fantastic links.

St. James RC Primary School is located in Kalk Bay. Kalk Bay is a fishing village on the coast of False Bay. It lies between the ocean and high rise mountains. Some of the children who attend St. James Primary are from the local area of Kalk Bay. However, a large number of the children live further out and travel to St James by bus each day.

Mrs Saunders is the Principal of St. James RC Primary School, she visited Woodfall in 2009.

Since our links began in 2008, we have had funding from The British Council to allow teacher exchanges between Woodfall Primary School and St James Primary School. To date, seven staff from Woodfall Primary have travelled to South Africa. Mrs Gleave was the lastest teacher to visit St. James in February Half Term (2014), whilst she was at St. James she was also joined by two teachers from a school in Zimbabwe.

Six teachers from St. James have visited Woodfall Primary School. The exchanges have enabled our links to go from strength to strength and great relationships have been built between the two schools. We are lucky enough to have Mrs Nicolette Floris visit Woodfall during the Summer term - May 2014. We are looking forward to her visit.

The British Council funding has allowed us to complete several fantastic projects, where we have worked in collaboration with both the staff and children at St. James RC Primary School.

2009 : Eco United

2010 : What Makes You Proud ?

2012 : Who am I ?

This was the year that our fantastic anthem was written, titled 'Friends Across The Miles.' Children in Neston High School (UK), Bergvliet High School (SA), Woodfall Primary School (UK) and St. James RC Primary School (SA) generated ideas for our anthem. With the assistance of Matt Baker, the lively anthem with a special message was created. This song is regularly sung in all schools to remember our friends in South Africa.

2014 : Fairness and Justice

This is our current international project. We are looking at the meaning of Fairness and Justice, in particular learning about UK leaders that influenced these two areas. Year 4 have been learning about Emily Pankhurst and Elizabeth Fry. Year 2 have been learning about Dr Barnardo.

Below are photographs of St. James RC Primary School....... We hope you enjoy looking at them.
