Year 1 2019 - 2020

Mrs Gleave

Mrs Sheehy

Mrs Harrahill

Hello Year 1! We hope that you are enjoying having lots of time to play at home with your family and with your toys. On this page are some challenges that you can try at home to keep learning and discovering new things. We have updated some of these challenges (18.5.20) but have left the previous ones up too as you might not have completed them all (You don't have to do them all but they are there just incase!). These are all just suggestions and to be done when you have chance. The most important thing right now is to stay home, keep safe and have fun with your family.

We miss you all lots!

Mrs Harrahill, Mrs Sheehy and Mrs Gleave

Also, have a go at the competitions on Twitter.

English - Reading / spelling / writing

English work is now on a separate page. The matching files are on that page too. Please click on the tab at the top of the Year 1 page, above 'Year 1 2019-2020.'

Maths

Maths work is now on separate pages. The matching files are on those pages too. Please click on the tabs at the top of the Year 1 page, above 'Year 1 2019-2020.'

www.topmarks.co.uk is a good website for Maths games. Hit the Button (on Topmarks) is a good game for practising number bonds, doubles and timestables (start with 2s, 5s and 10s) against the clock! Another great game on the Topmarks website is the Mental Maths Train.

Science

Science work is now on a separate page. The matching files are on that page too. Please click on the tab at the top of the Year 1 page, above 'Year 1 2019-2020.'

Geography

Have a go at drawing a plan of your bedroom (or another room in your home). Start by thinking about the overall shape of the floor (e.g. is it a rectangle?) and drawing this as large as you can on a piece of paper. Then draw on where the door and windows are. Next draw on the main pieces of furniture and anything else in the room that you'd like to add in.

RE

This term in Year One we would have been learning about a new religion for our RE lessons called Islam. People who follow Islam are called Muslims. Do you remember learning about Creation, Big Bang and exploring beauty at the start of the year ? This activity is based on how many Muslims view Creation. Remember how we explained how there are lots of different views about this and we can have our own views whilst respecting the views of others.

Watch this clip, it may ask you to register but it is free to do so. “Zippy de Zip… Let’s go on a trip!”

Discuss…..

Why do you think you should take care of the world?

What have you created recently?

Can you retell the story of the dog?

How can you show kindness today?

PE

  • Joe Wicks
  • Cosmic Yoga
  • Skipping / Jumping - If you have a skipping rope, you could practise skipping with it. How many skips can you do in 30 seconds? If you find this tricky, you can start by lying the rope on the floor and seeing how many times you can bounce over the rope, from side to side. If you don't have a skipping rope, can you find something else to jump over? Maybe you could draw a line on the ground with chalk?

French

Salut Year 1! Ca va toujours?    Albert and Annick say 'bonjour' !

Hope you have checked our new  MFL webpage under our school tab . In the KS1 section  you can practise French with the new' Home learning grid', play French games and sing along French songs. Don't forget about the   ‘Tote bag’ Design Competition  ( Deadline 15th of June)  All details can be found on the MFL webpage.

 A bientôt!                                                                         Madame Saulnier

Art

The Year 1 teachers have all enjoyed seeing the lovely Rainbow pictures displayed in people's homes and other places. The artist and illustrator Quentin Blake has created some great pictures using a rainbow - see some examples below (and there are more on his website):

Why don't you have a go at creating your own picture using a rainbow? We'd love to see some of them so, if you do, perhaps you could ask Mum or Dad to take a photo of it and email it to us!
