European Day of Languages w/b 27th September

Hello, Bonjour, Hola, Guten Tag and Ciao,

If you haven't been in school this week, you may not know that last Saturday was European Day of Languages. This is a special time at Woodfall and each year you get to learn about a new language and the country it originated from.

Year 1 are learning all about the country Italy and the language Italian. If you have a map, can you find Italy on it? It is on the continent of Europe and is shaped like a high heeled boot.

We have attached the powerpoint we used in class, this shows some of the main features of Italy and some words in Italian. Have a look and see if you know anything else? Which Italian foods do you like best?

Could you write a sentence or two about what you have learnt? Or maybe you would like to try the wordsearch or make a flag? What would be your favourite pizza? Could you design your own?

If you would like to hear the language or have a try at counting to 10 in Italian you could try this:

Remember that everyone who speaks Italian doesn't live in Italy. We live in a global world where people move around a lot. At Woodfall we have lots of children and staff that can speak more than one language. Mrs Monti, who teaches Phonics to some of the Year 1's speaks Italian!

Have fun, take care and we hope to see you back soon.

Mrs Gleave, Mrs Harrahill and Mrs Sheehy
